There have been a few requests recently in #wordpress for a tarball of the current Subversion snapshot of WordPress, which WordPress itself doesn’t offer. So I put together a quick script and cronjob which will make a tarball of the WordPress Subversion trunk every 24 hours or so the links to which are not readily obvious (see Lloyd’s comment below).

Download the latest official WordPress nightly builds here.

Remember that these are development releases and should not for any reason be considered to be stable, even if it actually is.

      Neat.

You’re heavily involved with the WP development?

I’ve contributed some code, but I’m far from being “heavily” involved.

I will work to have that page updated as WordPress does provide official nightlies.

It would be best if you did not make your builds available, or prominently include information about what SVN revision they are. Otherwise, bugs submitted based on them will have little value.

PS. your tar file’s top level directory is ‘.’ when I think you intended it to be ‘wordpress’.

Thanks for the heads up, Lloyd. Nice to see you so on-the-ball when you just started at Automattic.

Post has been edited to reflect your suggestions.

I don’t think you or I ever really read http://wordpress.org/download/nightly/ . Joining mailing lists is an
      auto pilot activity for me.

Since posting my response, I see just how thoughtful a decision it is not to provide a direct link.

So come join us on WP Testers mailing list ;-)

Ah, I’ve read that page several times, by which I mean I’ve scanned the text for download links and somehow glossed over the non-linked words “nightly build location”.

Unfortunately I’m not a huge fan of mailing lists; I much prefer web-based discussion forums. And as far as I’m concerned the place I go to for support with the development release is either the IRC channel, or the Trac repository.
